"Will the Renomee import HDV thru its DVD drive, or does it HAVE to come in thru the firewire?"

Answer: Good question Jim - the Renommee will only accept HDV through the DV/Firewire port. In fact HDV is only truly transmitted via the DV cable. Other camcorders with differing high-definition compression schemes use other options but HDV (either 1080 or 720) are transferred via firewire cable.
NOTE: A renomme with the Ultra Card Upgrade (or the S-4000/PRO) is able to
import the AVCHD High-Def format via USB and other formats via the Integrated Media Manager.
