Quickstart Guide to Project Settings - Using Bogart SE OS3+

Special thank you to Seth Hampton for providing this quick-guide which he developed for one of his customers at CAM Audio, Inc.

Projects MUST be setup correctly BEFORE loading any video/footage and editing can begin.  We will cover several different ways to setup a project. We will also explore various video formats and proper settings for those formats.

6.Select format. NOTE: the SD format will always show 720x480!

Explanation of contemporary HD (High Definition) video formats

  • HDV is used by cameras that capture High Definition onto tape. HDV image size is 1440x1080 (16:9). HDV will be recorded using a standard 4 or 6 pin Firewire cable.
  • AVCHD is used by cameras that capture High Definition onto Hard Drive (HDD) or internal/onboard Flash Memory or removable Flash Memory IE: SDHC cards.
  • H.264 is found mostly as being captured by newer DSLR cameras (Canon, Nikon etc.)

When Recording AVCHD or H.264 video clips can be imported via USB cable from the camera directly or by removing the Memory card and using a “card reader”. These types of video cannot be recorded via Firewire cable.
